What is OSHC?
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is health insurance for international students in Australia. The Australian Government states that most students on a Student visa (subclass 500) need OSHC for the relevant period of their stay.
What does basic OSHC usually cover?
Government information explains that basic OSHC generally includes certain doctor services, hospital treatment, ambulance services and limited prescription medicines. Policies differ, and some services such as dental or optical treatment may require additional cover.
What should students from Nepal compare?
- The period of cover required
- Single, couple or family cover where relevant
- Premium and excess or gap costs
- Direct-billing networks
- Waiting periods and exclusions
- Optional extras
- Claims process and member support
How Sydmandu helps
Sydmandu can help students understand the OSHC process and organise cover with an appropriate provider as part of their Australia study preparation. Sydmandu is not the insurer, and the insurer determines policy wording, benefits, exclusions, eligibility and pricing.
