Message from Director

Dear Students,

As I pen down this message, I am reminded of my first trip to Australia 15 years ago, a journey that
fundamentally changed my life’s trajectory. Back then, as an international student, I found myself facing
challenges that were unique to our experience. There was a lack of genuine support and guidance for
international students, especially among those of us hailing from Nepal.

I remember vividly the confusion and uncertainty as I navigated a new education system and culture. I
watched as many of us were led astray, given incorrect advice or coerced into decisions that primarily
served to benefit education agents, rather than the students themselves. These experiences left a lasting impression on me and kindled a resolve to someday contribute positively to this situation.It was with this ambition in mind that the idea for Sydmandu was born. I envisioned a platform that would offer reliable, transparent, and student-centric guidance to ease the journey of international students.

Before actualising this vision, I immersed myself in the industry. I sought to understand its best practices, learning from the most accomplished in the field, and also worked with a few agents. These experiences gave me an insight into the lack of empathy and student-oriented focus that unfortunately still exist in some areas of this profession.

The aim with Sydmandu is to do things differently. I believe it’s critical that the needs and aspirations of
the students come first, and that’s what we intend to do.
Having lived in Sydney from 2008 to 2023, I’ve gone through the entire process of settling into a new
country, pursuing an education, and finding a footing in an unfamiliar land. From the anxiety of
IELTS/PTE test preparation, to selecting the right university or college, choosing the right course, and
even grappling with the challenges of settling in a new place – I’ve experienced it all.
And it’s these experiences that I want to leverage to help guide you through your journey. At Sydmandu, we aspire to provide you with the support and guidance that was so sorely lacking during my own early
days in Australia.
